Lost Key

Well, my wife managed to lose one of the keys to my less than three week old car. She doesn't have a clue where it is.

She picked me up from work yesterday, turned off the car, got out, and "thinks" she put the key in her pocket. We went to a restaraunt from there. I think she lost it at the restaraunt, but they don't have it. Didn't see it at work either. Sigh...

Anyone know how much it costs to replace an '04 325 key? Is it possible to deactivate it in case some S.O.B at work finds it and thinks he can use it?

She's not allowed to drive it until she replaces the key. If the key can't be deactivated, she has to replace the complete system, which I understand isn't cheap. That's why we have seperate accounts. She does stupid s*** like this all the time and I'm not about to pay for it.

A new key should be around $100 or so. You will need to bring down the vehicle's registration and an a photo ID in order for the dealer to make you a new one. Just get an alarm for your car with starter kill and you will be ok, there is no need to replace the whole system.

Fortunately she makes pretty good money so the financial piece only hits her. I know she doesn't do these things intentionally so I don't get too upset.

She's a brunette, but sometimes I wonder if she has blonde roots. [;)]
