Now that it's getting a bit colder in the northeast, my bmw gives a loud beep and the degrees flash for a few minutes when the thermostat goes below 37 degrees. anyone have a clue about this one? thanks a million!

For the longest time when i had my 318is the OBC lights were out. It would beep durng the winter and i had no idea what was going on. I always thought there was something wrong with my car, i eventually replaced my bulbs and after that i knew what was up. I always say whn my car beeps i know its really cold. LOL

Yes this is by design. When the temperature drops to 37 F or below and your car is on, the car will alert you with a beep and a flashing of the temperature readout, indicating possible icy conditions could exist. But not for a few minutes duration, only a few seconds. If the temp rises again and then falls to 37 F or below, it will do it again. You can read about it in your owner's manual. I know of no way to disable it.

Design feature...bridges and overpass road surfaces can freeze sooner and at temperatures just above 0 deg. C At autobahn speeds this is a nice reminder to drive with caution.

Yeah, that thing pisses me off too. Know of no way to turn it off either. I don't mind if it just beeped once, but the damn thing beeps everytime it hits 37 degrees. On a drive up to SF one time, it beeped constantly. I drove up early in the morning and the damn temperature kept fluctuating btw 36, 37, and 38 degrees. Every 5 minutes it was "BEEP"!

It is annoying but what bothers me the most is it changes my clock to the degree display. I am constantly looking down to see the time and I have to keep pressing the computer button to scroll to the time display....................

I live in upstate Ny, look slike it will be a problem for the next 6 months [:(!]

Just change your stereo to display the time instead of the station/track number. It'll always revert back to the time after you change stations. [thumb]

I jave wondered for years why the hell it does that, but I thought it was kind of funny. Relax and enjoy folks, had you bought that new Kia you were considering you wouldn't have this tough tough problem to deal with!!!! (its a joke--laugh!!!!)
