I am facing a horsepower problem with my E46
I can't speed more than 160 km/h, while it used to reach 200 easily
Also, the motor RPM is very high and always more than 3000

The gas consumption has increased, I have changed spark plugs and
a slight change was there.

Anybody can advise regarding this

If the motor RPM is high:

Automatic transmission - the transmission is not shifting to top gear, or it is slipping

Manual transmission - clutch is worn or needs adjustment

I could be wrong but all bmw clutches as far as I know are self-adjusting - so it would probably be the hydraulics or simply a worn clutch.

Is there anything to do with the Mass Air Flow
Does it affect the car horsepower or the speed?

My car is automatic transmission and it is acting very good.
I can notice that the shifting is going smoothly, but shifts at
high rpm and I am not able to speed with my car as I used to

the MAF does have an affect on the power output. it is one parameter the engine coltrol uses to determine the amount of gaz-to-air, valve control etc. when this sensor delivers the wg values a possible reaction is of course a lower output.

how come you think about it? anyone already told you that it was it? what date is your car? maybe you still got waranty that might cover the visit at the shop.

It is as the car can't breath. It is not the fuel pump, of course. Also, the air filter
was clean. I just thought about it as a possible reason and I think it is.

Mine is 2000, and I will pay.
Do you have any idea about how much the MAF costs?

A couple hundred dollars, from what I remember. It's not something you'd want to just swap out on a hunch. What engine codes are you getting?
