Is it true you cannot get an M3 in auto(or steptronic) and only manual or SMG? Because when i trade in my 325i i might get an M3 in Auto, only because my family really dont know how to drive stick and im not the only one using the car :(. So would auto be an option?

No, no auto. But SMG will act as one, though not as smooth.

with an SMG in "auto mode" is it necessary to have your both hands on the steering wheel for shifting? cause you must do that in "manual mode" right?
You don't have to have your both hands on the wheel, why? You can either shift with a shifter or paddles. So if you use the shifter, you can drive like a conventional stick or auto.

In Auto mode it will shift like an auto, no need for you to even touch the shifter or the paddles.
