So, My car is now about 28K+. The maintanance milage shows that it is about 1200 miles to go before I have to change oil. While I have changed the oil on around 21K miles, it is time to replace it again.

I remembered that the service advisor of BMW alrlington told me that if it is 1500 or less miles to go, I could schedule the maintenance service. In fact, I did it with BMW arlington when my car was 13700.

Well, I thought I tried to go to BMW Sterling this time since I've had some Quality Control problems in the past with BMW Arlington. To my surprise, BMW Sterling told me that unless it is 500 miles or less, BMW WILL NOT do the service for free. [nono] It means I have to pay for the oil change!! They told me that BMW policy has been always like that.

Do you all have experience on this?[???1]

If this is true, does this mean that BMW Arlington didn't do any thing when I brought it in for the first 15K service? [scratch]

I believe it is up to the dealer regarding how close it is to the service before they will act, I do not think there is a BMW policy on it except to say that it must be close.

It is BMW's policy within 500 miles, but in some close cases the dealership is known to go ahead......if your car is already there and say there is 700 miles......

well, I called BMW Arlington and I told them the fact that my car still have about 1200 miles to go, but I think it is time to do oil change and Inspection I service. They scheduled me up for the service and a loaner car. So, if it is BMW policy, how can they do that?

Do you think they did that because I bought my car from them?
Will see what happens?

All companies have policies and procedures that are meant to be broken, without some sort of policy or procedure then people with 3000 miles to go would want to come in, so there must be constraints in place. Contraire to many public opinions, BMW NA and the BMW dealerships do try to work with people for their service and maintenance schedules. Example in point is you.........they're trying to help you with this request, no hidden agenda, just plain helping you. Good luck!

Even that 30K service is somewhat of a variable. My '04 has just over 23K on the odometer and the dash service indicator says I will be due for the 30k service at 26.5K. I guess the computer is doing some analysis after all even with me changing the oil etc in between dealer service.

The computer monitors your driving style and actual mileage driven and weighs that against idle time, etc. The result is a "real" service interval as opposed to an arbitrary one based on just miles driven.

My dealer here in San Francisco is a bit more strict about service intervals. Earler this year, my car indicated I'd need Inspection 1 within 600 miles. I called the dealer to schedule an apointment, but they said they wouldn't even do THAT until my service indicator was within 50 miles of ZERO.
