Hey Bimmers, I grew up on manual however here in AZ, the driving is somewhat comaparable to CA. Because of the bumper to bumper rush hour traffic, I'm affraid the manual shifting will not be fun so I'm leanig towards steptronic. I know it has both. Any thoughts?

Steptronic is not as fun. I believe Phoenix has a pretty bad freeway section, but I'm not sure if you're gonna be there. How long is traffic for you? If it's under an hour, I'd say the manual is worth it. If it's more, than possibly consider the step. The Steptronic has both modes, but it's not nearly as fun as a manual. I only use the Manual mode on the Stepronic when I want to hold a gear. The car actually seems to perform better in Sport mode when I wanna have some fun. I remember the roads in Arizona were pretty open generally. Looked like lots of places to have fun.

Have you considered SMG? I tested one and really liked it. It will work well for you in stop and go traffic, no clutch to engage all the time, but still all the control of a manual.

Steptronic!! And like codex57 said, put the auto in S mode, and it is so much more fun the "maual" mode. The S mode holds the gears incredibly long, and sounds awesome!!

Here in L.A. the traffic is so bad...most Ferraris and Porsches are auto too. Save yourself, and your foot, some stress...go with the steptronic

This is the first auto I've owned and enjoy it because of the three shift modes. There are times I miss having a manual, but not when the traffic becomes bumper-to-bumper - not a fan of smelling a hot clutch.

Yeah I still kick myself because I didn't get manual. Then again, when I'm stuck in traffic I think the auto was my best decision in the world.

Too bad they don't make it with both....just switch it over. Now that could be a million dollar idea.
