Anyone else with manual transmission problems. I now have 85,000 miles on my 2003 330i (ZHP). Last night driving home I noticed the car was running really rough when I slowed for stop lights. Felt like the engine was missing and an unusual kind of clanging sound could be heard. Took the car in to the dealer (warrantee & maintenance good to 100,000 miles) and they claimed I had 2 spark plugs that failed and an “internal trans failure”. They fixed the spark plug problem and ordered a new trans. Claim they will have it done by end of the week. Service advisor said the trans failure was rare and they don’t get many transmission problems. Just though I’d share this, not a huge deal since it’s covered and not costing me a lot of money.

[thumb] I don't know if I totally agree with the assessment, as my manual transmission failed at 155,000 miles just after my clutch gave up the ghost at 150,000. Tranny's and clutch's wear out after so many miles, its like water going down hill, eventually it will arrive at the bottom. I was way out of warranty therefore my replacements came out of pocket. My clutch and tranny cost 4,000.00 when all was said and done but I'm glad my bimmers past that ugly phase. Yes, parts do wear out and will need relacing from time to time. Just my two and a half cents worth. Happy Motoring...
