So yesterday I go to start my car and my steering wheel is very tight. Naturally I think the power steering fluid might be low. But I checked it and it was full. Plus the everything was working fine up until that point.

My car is 2001 330 CI with close to 95K on it.

Well I bring it to my mechanic and he thinks the pump might be the problem. I left the car there overnight and he said he checked the pump this morning and very little pressure is coming so that is the problem.

Now get this... he said a pump cost $475 and he is unable to find any cheaper after market parts. With labor which could be 2 hours the whole job could cost over $700 bucks.

I need to know if I am getting bs'd here or worse ripped off. Everyone please chime in your opinions.

$475 sounds about right, I've seen them listed at over $500 for a new one.

Give circlebmw.com a call and see if their prices are cheaper.

Well the whole job ended up costing like 740 with tax. He said he used the original part from BMW.

I guess I'll never know.... although I did call the dealer and asked how much the same job would be and they said it was listed as $900 not sure if that included tax or not.

These cars are damn expensive to fix!
