Hey guys i just bought a new Head Unit and ive got no prob fitting it apart from the memory wire. (the wire that connects to an always on source of power) and the wire that turns on the illumination when you turn on the lights. my old stereo never had these features (the light thing isn't an issue) and the memory is needed for the radio stations to stay when i turn off the ignition. Have any of you guys replaced your stereo and used the memory?? is there an easy access permanant source near the stereo i can use?

For memory wire, run a wire DIRECTLY to the postivie terminal on your car and bam you are done. Theres a thread in the e30 forums here called "upgrading "premium" sound system" not too long ago, i think you should read.

also i hooked up a memory wire under hte dash as well. i only knew where it was, because there was already an aftermarket deck in my car when i got it. I'll take a look sometime today and find out what color the wire is. but in DOUBT... you can ALWAYS run a wire directly to the positive terminal of your battery for a memory wire.

You might want to check and see if the lighter runs hot when the ignition is off. It should also have a dimmer light that is connected the dash lights as well.

mine had a constant power wire

Memory (+12v Constant) Gray/Red
Ignition (+12v Switched) Violet
Ground (-) Brown
Illumination White/Blue
Dimmer (none)
Power Antenna White

maybe these are the colors?? Its way too much of a pain to pull out my radio, plus its freezing outside

here are more:
BETWEEN HEAD UNIT AND BOOSTER AMP
Yellow/Red - Left Front Channel
Yellow/Black - Left Rear Channel
Blue/Red - Right Front Channel
Blue/Black - Right Rear Channel
Yellow/Brown - Left Channel Ground at Amp End Only
Blue/Brown - Right Channel Ground at Amp End Only
Brown - All Channel Ground at Head End Only
(note that the all of the grounds are spliced together within the wiring harness - the system uses a common ground between the head and the amplifer)
White - 12V Switched (to turn amplifier ON when head unit ON, also runs to power antenna)

BETWEEN AMP AND SPEAKERS

Pair: Black/White and Black/Brown - Right Rear Speakers
Pair: Grey/White and Grey/Brown - Right Front Speakers
Pair: Black/Red and Black/Purple - Left Rear Speakers
Pair: Grey/Red and Grey Purple - Left Front Speakers
(note that the wires highlighted in red above all run to the crossover side of the midrange drivers, you'll want to know this to keep all your speakers in phase - make sure all of your speaker (+)s go to these wires)
(also note that the speaker circuits DO NOT use a common ground when they leave the booster amp)

OTHER WIRES

Red/Black - 12V Battery Power (via 30 amp fuse in fusebox according to Bentley)
Brown - Power Ground
