I'm thinking about getting these Michelin® Pilot Sport A/S 225/45R17
Ultra High Performance tires for my 323CI. Does anyone have these and what are your thoughts? They are stated to handle exceptionally well in the snow, but that to me is hard to believe. Can anyone confirm? I appreciate it.

They are a great all-around set of tires. You pay a premium for them over regular performance all-seasons, but they are supposed to be really great for all weather conditions. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, I had Continental ContiExtremeContact tires (Ultra High Performance all-seasons) with 17" aftermarket wheels and they were really great all around. They gave that shitty Jetta really good handling, really good grip, and I was pleased with their stickiness in rain and snow. When driving through the snow, as long as I took it nice and slow, I was able to get anywhere!!
My point is that the Continental ContiExtremeContacts are a much cheaper alternative, but if you can pay the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's premium, then you will certainly get better all-around performance from them!!!

Thanks MrElussive! I will research the Continental ContiExtremeContacts and make my decision in the next few days. The Michelin's are very expensive which is why I wanted to get other people's opinion first. You may have saved me a bundle without compromised too much in performance!!!

No problem. [;)]
TireRack's user reviews and ratings are usually a pretty decent guideline to follow when choosing new tires. I think you just need to decide if the Pilot Sport A/S's are worth it for you. They are probably a better tire than the Conti's and if you're going to use them all year round (rather than using summer tires and winter tires for the different seasons), it's not a bad idea to go all out to get the best all-seasons you can afford.

I had that same exact tire on my previous car, an 04 WRX STi. If you absolutely want to get A/S tires I would highly recommend them but I wouldn't get them again, just because I now feel a dedicated set of summer/winter tires is the only way to go. The A/S tires are a "Jack of all trades, Master of none" Make sure you understand that before you buy them.

Great point Moderato. I was actually immobalized on some occassions due to snow and I'm talking about 3 inches or so. Obviously, the cost savings approach is to get one set of tires, but living in central PA snow is a common occurrence. Ideally, I would like to have two sets, but with buying a new home it puts a dent in my wallet. Thanks guys for your awesome advice!

Another choice would be the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S. I hear and read that this is a really good all around tire. The Tire Rack has a lot of reviews and shows it above the Michelins. Probably because of the value/performance ratings. Personally, I would consider these over the Michelins cause I dont have deep pockets. Still a good choice. HH

According to the TireRack.com comparision the 17" Perelli P-Zero stacks up as better A/S Ultra High Performance tire at a much better price. I repect your choice, however, dollar for dollar the aforementioned is a much better investment. I'm currently running the Perelli only because my tire of choice, the Dunlop 5000 A/S Ultra High Performance does not come in 17". Please go to TireRack and do your own comparision.
