I was looking at this

http://www.carsoup.com/used/detail....5&searchID=1&CDSID=&vehicleTypeID=1&dealerID=

I wish it was the later style bumpers but I think I can pull through. I has no rust apparently, and a 1year old clutch.

It is an "E" though :( But I had an idea. Could I take the "I" head from another car and swap it with the "E". Ive hear supposedly this puts out around 200hp but I don't know if I believe this. Saw it in an old BMW Scene magezine. The guy had a 325e and put a "I" head in and said he put out 200hp now.

Someday Im going to do a m50 swap anyways :) Just need $4500 to get me on my way

Would that "e" to "i" work? Just as long as its about as fast as my "i" is right now Im gonna be happy.

Thanks

The head swap is an idea, except the I has different pistons from the E. Swaping an I head onto an E would work, except you lower compression drastically, thus not creating an I out of an E and lastly making the effort totally not worth it. To get the full I effect you would have to change out the pistons as well...

BTW... minnesota? I've seen that 325 on carsoup for a while now (been searching bmws in the minneapolis area for a few months). I bet the guy is easily open to liberal offers on the car if he is serious....

DO not put the "I" head on the ETA 2.7 "E" block. It will lower the compression to 8:1 or maybe less. The "I" engines have sperical combustion chambers while the "E" engines have the "quench" style. So the pistons in an "E" are flat tops while the "I" pistons are domed. Basically what it comes down to.

Now you can put the "I" cam into the "E" with some minor oil modification I think. I read it somehwere on another bmw site. They guy who did it stated it greatly increased the power, but raised the power-band up in the RPM range to around 4500 rpm, so you would also need to regprom the ECU and raise the rev limiter. But they guy states it was well worth it, and I plan to do something along these lines eventually with my '87 325 with the eta engine.

Just my suggestion of course, not words to live by. Later.

I can get a "I" head for like $300, Couldn't I just do the swap like I said 2 posts up, head, cam, and pistons?
equate, [wave]

I tihnk there are other factors to go along with an E to I swap. The computer is a large one. You would have to swap an I computer in (I believe) along with possibly a wiring harness. I don't think its worth it in my oppinion. If you want to get the E then run it until it needs a rebuild, then consider the I swap.

I never got BMW to compliment my SHO. I have a possible 535i I might buy in minneapolis (needs new front shocks), but the 325es I looked at a while ago was... in rough shape we'll say. It neded a fair amount of work, and was fairly rusty, I haven't been called back about the 535i as of yet but I know the owner is on a vacation. Hopefully everytihng will work out.

I would keep searching for a 325ix...... that would be sexy and practical [:)]

You could put an "I" computer, head and pistons into an "E" block but the "E" crankshaft does not handle high RPM like the "I" does. I read in these forums the other day that supposivly the "E" crankshaft with handle 7,000 rpm but I highly doubt that. Korman Fast BMW states on there website that the "E" crankshaft and valve springs will only handle 5,000 rpm safely. Anything above that and you are risking a major breakdown.

I plan to do some major changes to my "E" when I rebuild it in a few years. I will probably go with the 2.9L stroker kit and put an "I" head onto it. I think from that point you can just get the ECU modified, not replace it. I was reading an article about a guy swapping an "I" engine into an "E" car and it was realtivlely easy. The wiring harness was the same basically just the ECU's are different. That brings up a good question that I will ask in the main forum area right now. Later
