Uh oh, sounds like the moonroof's abotu to fail. The window regulators and moonroof often make weird noises or slow down right before they fail. Have you taken it in to the dealer? The problem is it's so common, some dealers won't do anything until it actually fails.
i dont think the regulators have anything to do with it ... the moon roof makes those noises when the chassis moves ... not when the moon roof is opening or anything
Could it be the rubber seals squeaking/creaking on the roof metal as the roof flexes? Maybe try some silicone weatherstrip lubricant/preservative on it? Just a suggestion.
Yeah I have the same problem on my BMR. I have a 2002 325i and with the sports suspention the car creaks like hell. I went to BMW and since it was under service warranty the guys were taking care of it but now I am just plainly irritated that i have to take the car in every time. Now they want me to pay $60 for every application (yeah RIGHT!).
So I have been doing some research and stumbled on your posting. This is what I have been able to find out. Do not use was or petrolium byproducts since this will eat the rubber on the weatherstriping over time (you don't want that). There are products out in the market which require to apply to weatherstrip once every 2 months or as needed:
1. "Gummy Fledge" (BMW's products but they don't carry it anymore)
2. "Special Lubricant" or in German called "Spzeil Gleitmittel" BMW's part number 83199408523 (BMW's replacement to Gummy Fledge but $48 for 2 oz)
3. "Krytox" (a DuPont product) Work in progress trying to find out price and ingredients. http://www.dupont.com/lubricants/en/industries/automobile.html
4. "303 303 AEROSPACE PROTECTANT" cost about $8 for 8oz (but this is the cheap solution to problem so not sure if this is good or not). http://www.shootnhunt.com/catalog/JM/boat_cleaning_maintenance/303/6401287.html
5. “silocone lub” (a Garaga Inc. product)

Well, it seems you're still under warrany, so just take it in to them.
I replaced my weather strip this summer. It had become so old that I forgot they come with felt on them! I also cleaned out the channels and parts...you wouldn't believe how much crud gets in there. With it clean again, my one touch is back!!
Anyway, to take the glass out you have to remove six Torx screws (three on each side). Then when you put it back in, you have to align the glass to the roof line...there is play in all six of those screws.
I'm guessing that your window is slightly out of alignment? The instructions for putting the glass back in tell you to use a credit card on the outside of the car to gauge the distance between the glass and the roof...just place credit card in the cracks and see if it has the same distance all around. You could use this method to determine if your glass is off kilter. Maybe it's just one of the hex screws being loose? I'd just take it in under warranty and not be bothered, but if you're curious maybe this gives you some leads?
Hi, I am having a similar problem,,,,, when I close the moon roof it comes almost to a complete close, stops, goes back a few inches and stops... then I have to hold the swith to close it completely... How do I fix this???
