Moonroof cover off track

Hey everyone -

Just wondering if anyone had experience with the moon/sun roof inside cover getting off track (not the actual sunroof window). I've tried to fix it myself, but there's not much room in there - plus, I've heard this is a common problem and most people just take it to the dealer. Do you think dealer is the only way to go?

Thanks

Stink, I have the same problem. It is only on one side. When I try t slide it down to cover the moon/sun roof it gets cockeyed on one side. This hasn't been a big problem, but it is annoying. I haven't looked into getting it fixed. Let me know if you find out anything as will I. One would think it would be covered under warranty.

My mother-in-law, has the same year, diff model than I do, actually had hers come off track so bad, that is flew back into the empty space in the roof. Her car was 6 months old, so they fixed it. I'm crossing my fingers it'll be under warranty almost 3 years later.

Just got back from dealership - the moonroof cover is under warranty. They were very nice about it. Even gave me a loaner car since they might need the car a couple of days to get it repaired correctly. Hope this helps others with the same problem.

Stink, how many miles are on your car. You have a 2000 328i as well don't you? Do you have much of your warrenty left? Did you have to pay anything? Just wondering. I might take mine in to see about it. Thanks [:)].

I've had the same problem with my 1999 323i. The first time, the car was still under warranty and the dealer fixed the problem right away. Now, two years later, I'm faced with the same problem and now the car is out of warranty. I hoped they'd fix it as a courtesy since it's a reoccurring problem, but they told me there's been too much time between the first incident and this one.

The dealer quoted me $1850.00 to replace the tracks and shade. I told them to forget it and I'll just live with the problem. As you can guess, I'm not very happy. [:(]

Other than the obvious ripping-the-damn-thing-out, I wonder if there is a longer term solution or is the design just faulty? Anyone had it fixed and then last longer than two years? -Stink

I have the same problem with my 2000 328ci. I am taking in on Monday to get it fixed under warrantee. I was lucky it happened about 200 miles before my warrantee expired, which was 260 miles ago, but because I called ahead they are honoring it.

I had the same problem with my moonroof cover a couple weeks ago. When i hit the button to open my moonroof, i heard a crack and realized the cover came off its track and broke, and i ended up ripping the whole thing out. Repair was covered under warranty. Basically everything is covered, if u guys ever have problems, call and ask ur dealer. You paid for the warranty, might as well get the most out of it. [thumb]

So - I got it fixed. The dealer couldn't have been more understanding about it - I even told them I was worried about it breaking again. Unfortunately, they only cover repairs for one year, but they pretty much put several new pieces that had broken. I guess I just won't touch the thing and just leave it open. Cross my fingers. If it breaks again and the dealer won't fix, I'll probably just end up ripping it out.
