Moonroof not closing all the way!!

A couple of day ago I had my roof open and when I went to close it I heard an unusual sound and the roof would not close. I was able to get it close by holding the button in the whole time.
Now two of the function don't work and the roof in the front of the car is about 1/4" shy of closing. IF the roof is up in the back and you try to push the button to close it it will not unless you hold the button the whole time. Normally you can push the button and let off and the roof will close. The other function not working is when you have the roof up you can push the button back and the roof will go down then open all the way, it starts to close then stops and goes back to the up position. [:(!]
Well this will be about a half dozen time I will have my car in for something in a year, I have 5400 miles on the car. I have so far had a new trans put in and also had the car in several time for the battery discharging on me.

Has anyone had a problem with the Moonroof or is it just me?

take it to a bmw dealer and they'll replace the sunroof magazine for you, or fix your plastic clips. this is a typical e46 problem..... bad design. good news is, you won't need to pay!!!

This problem, or one similar, has been posted here before. Seems the design is cheap (clips break). Many have not had any problems, including me. Warranty covers.

My battery discharged, they fixed it with software when the car was 1 month old.

I just got a software fix for the slipping tranny. So far it works. Seems like BMW found this after replacing gobs of trannys all over the country.

I have only had to have the transimission replaced and the computer module replaced due to side mirror problems. I use the sun roof all the time and have never had a problem with it.

At least your repair will be covered by bmw.

Until then, make sure you carry an umbrella in the car with you -- jk

Well the moonroof is working again like it should, it closes all the way and the functions are working again. I wounder now if I have a broken clip or need the sunroof magazine replaced. I'll take it in and have it looked at.
Thanks for all the input.

Yes, take it in for the sunroof. I had that problem on my previous 325ci. It would be an on and off and again problem. Whenver I had made an appointment at the BMW Center, it would work that entire week...so I would cancel the appt, then it seemed a few days later to start malfunctioning again. Didnt stop completly until I finally took it in. Not sure what they did,...but it fixed the prob.
