Thanks for everyones opinion & advice. It sounds like the V1 & Escort 8500 is best product on the market (V1 has popularity edge).

Question is: Whats the best/sleakest way to mount these? Does anyone have pics of their Detectors mounted to see how they look? Can it be in the dash or does it have to be On the dash/looking out the front window??

Please advise and post pics if you have any!

Thanks!

I have an Escort Passport 8500 X50 model. It is mounted right under my rear-view mirror so it's in my field of view to read the status easily, but it doesn't get in my way while driving around. As you can see, I have it hard-wired into the rear-view mirror, and I have the mute button mounted next to my shift knob.

Feel free to ask any questions regarding the setup.

Anyone ever have any success at putting a mute button in the R/T button on the steering wheel? I don't have an installed phone, so that would be an excellent location. Taking apart the steering wheel sounds like a recipe for disaster however.

I haven't tried these. I just use the old suction cup methods. The more exotic ones I don't know about. The regular hardwire where you mount it next to your rear view mirror (but below the blue tint) seems to be the tried and true method. My friend has his V1 mounted to his C32 like that and it's a great location.

codex, those are great links. I particularly like the last two stealth installs (the M3 and the 5-series). I really prever Valentine's concealed display over Escort's Direct Wire SmartCord that I am using now for my hard-wired 8500 X50. As you can see, all it does is provide a mute button and two LED lights...one in green to show that the radar detector is on and the other one is red and it blinks when it is detecting. It's so useless that I actually covered the two LED's with a small strip of electrical tape because they were annoyingly bright while driving around at night.

I think the best setup EVER would be to have the radar detector totally hidden like in the M3. And then get a StealthOne to display the status in the digital part of the gauges, and have the remote mute button placed somewhere by the shift knob like in my Escort's setup (it has been SUCH a great location for me as I barely have to take my hand off the shift knob to mute the thing).
