Um... Can you make a soundclip of it for us and link it so we can hear it? I'm not making heads or tails of it w/o hearing it or a bit more descriptive of whats going on.

And no, that's not normal - have you flipped a SES recently, or is one flipped right now?

BMW's purr pretty silently, if you have your door and windows closed while idling, you shouldn't hear much at all.

SES = Service Engine Soon, if you've seen this flip on/off recently or if it's on right now, that might indicate you've got some sort of problem under the hood. If it's flipped or has recently I'd get the code read at Autozone, the dealership, or a garage somewhere with the fault reader to see what's going on.

Good luck!

maybe you have leaf in your air system or aircon? when you rev the engine up, it gets just load enough so you can´t hear it anymore? try to switch the aircon off and see what happens.

HI.. i just found out where is the sound coming out from.. got the stetoscope out and got the mechanic to have a listen , and guess what? the sound is from the heat grill that is seating on top of the engine. according to the mechanic it's loose or something.. and just need a little of tightening , that's all.. no big issue.. i couldn't let him do it at that time cause the engine was still hot..

so no big issue guys.. and no the SES light has not come on or off at all... no problems with the engine..
