Went to go to Target yesterday to pick up some stuff. As I'm turning into a parking spot, the engine dies on me. I'm like.. umm not good. Started up the engine and proceeded to park. On my way out of the parking lot, I slowed down for a speed bump (huge yellow plastic in the middle of the lot). As I'm slowing down, the engine dies again. Started the car back up, and i'm like.. what the F$&$)!!! It almost died on me again 2 mins later, i saw the tach drop, and added more gas.
Called up the dealer, and they were like yeah you really should bring your car in. Made an appointment and they can't do anything to my car till Monday, so I'm dropping it off Sunday night. Till then, I'm driving around my dad's Expedition.

I didn't know what a tranny slip was till I read it here, might have them look at that also. Anyone else having similar problems with theirs? Mine is a 2000 328i steptronic.

On a side note, wonder how much it'd cost to change the tranny to SMG.

How many miles do you have?
If I had to guess I would say it sounds like your fuel pump is takig a crap on you.

Let us know what they come up with.

I had a simular problem in my 2000 323i, it turned out to be a vacuum hose leak. Needless to say I had to get my Schedule II done early. $1300.00 dollars later problem solved.

35,000 miles.. I got july 4th, with 17,900 miles. Its still under warranty which is a huge load off my wallet.
My first thought was an O2 sensor or perhaps a hose. When I'd have trouble starting, and it finally starts on the 2nd try, I couldn't rev past 3000 rpms and couldn't get much of anything if i downshifted.

I get a hiss noise too when I'm coasting down a hill turning like 2000 rpm or so(I don't get the hiss when turning a higher or lower number of rpms, just right around 2000). This hiss noise disappears when I increase throttle or apply brakes. No problems from this noise, though.

The "hiss" noise at around 2500 rpm is complety normal. It just the sound of the air intake. My cars makes a lound "hiss" or sucking noise at that rpm because I have a cold air intake. It is a normal sound. I love that sound.
