First off, I just bought a 2004 330XI about 3 weeks ago. I went to Michigan for Thanksgiving and went test driving with my uncle that is interested in BMW's. In the showroom I saw an M3 on display with an interested protector on the front and back of the car. The salesman said it is called a " clear Teflon protection guard," for protection from little rocks dinging the car.

I ordered the Teflon guard from my BMW dealor when I got back to my place in Chicago. I needed a Courtesy car because I will need a ride for work. So when I dropped off my car, I was expecting a BMW car. They said the Courtesy car was ready so I went with the guy to get the car, and it was a Ford Taurus!!! I said, " Aren't I suposed to get a BMW???" The guy said "it will cost more." He then said " if you want a Jeep, I can get you one for $10 more." I said I will just take this one, and I didn't really have time to ask questions because I had business appointment's and was in a hurry.

When I went to pick up my car the next day, I went to pay for the gaurd, and this guy was next to me. He said, " I am dropping my car off, do you have any X5's that I can get??? They said, "yes we have an X5." I then talked to another guy asking why I got a Taurus, and he told me "you have to ask for a BMW courtesy car." He also said that there was no extra charge to get a BMW and didn't know who told me that. I couldn't believe he said that! The guy that got the X5 said that he never even knew that they have Ford's to rent.

All in all, they did an good job on the Teflon guard, but I sure would like to talk to the guy that gave me the Taurus.

It wouldn't have been so bad if it was Mark Martins Taurus[fake] Can you say 800 HP[}:)]

My dealer told me that we would get Bimmers as courtesy cars. He even said "hey, if we're out of loaner bimmers, we have lots of used bimmers on the lot you can drive[thumb]

A lot of dealerships that get a lot of business through service often run out of loaners, and they end up renting cars from Hertz and Avis and those other car renting companies. My dad has a Benz E430 and he took it in for service once and his loaner car was a Ford Taurus. I don't think it bothered my dad too much but I was in shock when there the loaner Taurus shitbox was sitting in our garage...I expected they would at least give him a C-class loaner or something. My BMW dealer would loan BMW's on a first come first serve basis. So far I've been lucky and received 325i's each time I took it in for service. Next time, prior to taking your car in for service, request for a BMW from your advisor.

My dealer has a few BMW loaners. I scheduled my service around the availbility of a 330i. Otherwise I may have ended up with a Taurus. Always ask, never assume!

My dealer gives out camry's or avalon's as loaners. You can't even request a BMW. They do have a few (3 or 4) 3 series coupe's they they do give out on occasion to those "deserving" customers but other than that you are SOL. BMW did offer me an '03 330ci loaner (indefinetly) when I was having a string of problems with my car. They said they wouldn't mind holding onto my car for 3+ weeks to look at it and investigate some of the problems I was having. They even gave me a color option! Other than that, even when I ask, I get a Toyota [:(] It's going in next week for the tranny. Since I have a feeling this is going to be more than a same day job maybe I can push for a BMW [rolleyes]
My mom has an E320 and every time she brings it to Mercedes she always gets an M350. I don't expect BMW to slap the keys to M3 in my hand (although that would be pretty nice) but why do some dealers use BMWs and others don't? [scratch]

Wow, at least you guys get loaners from your dealers. When working back in 2000, I spent my summer running errands for the office in the 2000 Z3 2.5l 5-speed that the office leased. I had to take it in to the BMW dealer twice - once to have a warranty repair on the convertible top, and another time to have an oil service done. Neither time did they give me a loaner. They were so gracious as to give me a ride to and from my place of employment in a beat up Ford Windstar minivan instead.

Last time I took mine in for service I got stuck with a Chrysler PT Cruiser. You would think that it couldn't get any worse, but it did. It was PURPLE!

I find lots of BMW service staff are a bit snooty. If you don't look like money, which apparently I don't, you don't get the same treatment as the buisnessman. I would expect that as a sales ploy they would get you into another BMW to rediscover the experience of new and improved technology, but what do I know?

Purple... blech!

This is exactly the case at the dealer I took the Z3 to in Greenville, SC. I (an 18 year old at the time) was treated rudely by the service advisor. I remember being told to go wait at the curb for the dealer driver to come around and pick me up and take me back to work in the Windstar. While I was waiting, my service advisor helped a ritzy looking lady who had brought her 7 series in to have it worked on. He talked to her like she was a queen and he promptly gave her a new 5 series as a loaner. I was pissed that I didn't get treated with the same respect just because I was younger and didn't look like a million bucks.

My dealer comes out to my work, picks up my car for me... drives it to the workshop for the service then delivers it back to me before the end of the day.

Wouldn't mind a Z4 for a loaner on a nice day though...

I am so laughing on that one..........my Mother's Nissan Quest has been in the body shop for two weeks (for a 5 day job)......we are leaving for Tennessee on Friday.....she keeps fretting about having enough time to get the oil changed, tires rotated/balanced and all the hoses checked........she had left two messages for them but they had not called back.......so I went by the dealership today to ask about her car and explain her time challenged week to get the car all ready for a long road trip and how worried I am about her being on the road (he didnt need to know I was going with her)......after that sob story, he said in that Texas drawl, dont worry darlin', we'll take care of everything, no charge........

Moral of the Story: Sometimes "we" get to say bend over instead of the majority time the other way around.[fake] [fake] [fake]

I think a good number of the dealers around here don't use BMWs as loaners or only give free loaners if you bought from them. Luckily, there are a ton of dealers around so it's easy to call around and shop. All the MB dealers that I know of around here give MB loaners though. Might only get a C class, but at least it's still an MB rather than a Chevy Cavalier.
