I just bought my first BMW. it is an 85' 318i. that is all i really know about it. i was wondering what the specs are on this model, as far as engine size etc. this car also needs some work (it was only a $500 car) three of the four windows need new motors, so i was told, and i desperatly need a new driver's seat. i have been able to find window motors on-line, but where can i find a replacement seat?

the 18 in 318i stands for 1.8l, i dont know any other specs for that but you can get them somewhere online. as far as seats are concerned, your local junkyard should have some seats.

You can also check eBay for seats. They usually have some E30 seats for bid up on there. I usually see a couple every now and then going for $150-300 for a pair. $500 for a 318... wow. I mean even though it's a fixer-upper it's a steal. But welcome to the forum. Haha, I'm pretty new here too. So I guess sit back, grab a drink and enjoy the forum. [:D]

If you are going to buy a new seat, spend the extra money and get the leather "recaro" seat. The are the most versatile, confortable seat that I have ever sat in.

If you need any help, drop a line my way. I picked up the almost the same car (2 door) for $400 about three months ago. BTW replace the idle control valve and motor mounts ASAP. These cars are notoriuos for burning through them.
Things that may give you idling problems: Idle Control Valve, Throttle Position Switch, Thermo Time Sensor, vacuum leaks, Idle Control Module, and a couple others. I also have the Bently for this car so if you need any diagrams scanned and sent to your I can work that out.
