My First Scratch

Well ... at 5000+ miles and 4 months, I finally have a scratch. I've been very careful as to where I park the car so as to avoid people swinging their doors out next to me and damaging the side of my car. Figured there was less risk to parallel park. Well ... someone (I guess trying to get out from a parallel parked spot behind me) apparently scraped up against my rear bumper today.

There is a small scratch there ... no more than 1/2 of an inch actually. But it is very deep. Looks to me like it is below the paint (the car is steel blue and I see dark brown/black). From what I have read on other threads, there really isn't any way to touch up something this deep. I don't want to take a chance on doing anything myself. Am I relegated to needing to have the entire rear bumper re-painted? Anyone else have a similar situation and what did you do?

I had the same problem, only my car was T. Silver. I had it touched up by the dealer but I was satisfied with the result. I ended up having the whole bumper painted. It cost me about $300. The color match was dead on, they did a great job. This really wasn't an issue when I traded my car in, they only checked the hood and side panels with the paint meter. Good Luck!

I had scratches like yours that the dealer caused by mistake and fixed. So I can't tell you cost because they did it for free.

They filled and painted just the area where the scratches were and it looks perfect. The scratches were at one end and I have no idea how much they painted because you cannot tell no way no how.

Mine is Titanium Silver and that color is easy to paint and match. It was done by my dealership owned body shop so I know they used BMW paint and knew what they were doing. Lucky me.

I think Steel Blue would be easy to paint just like mine was.......
