Hi again!

I have m3-rims on my 320d.. And. I have a problem.. (pictures will come soon!).. On the rim there is to kinds of paint.. First there's the primer, which is black, and there is the silver-paint on top of that. On one of my rims the silver has started to fall of! The rim has never been damaged, and there is nothing indicating that this has been caused by rocks/hard objects.. It simply seem like it has been airbrushed off the rim with a sand blaster.. I really have no explination to it! Have anyone else experienced this? Are there ways to fix this problem? Or will it be the best solution to buy a new rim? any hints anyone?

If there is a good auto body shop "above the polar circle"...the rim can be re-finished, but I think it will be easier and quicker just to replace the rim.

Is there a BMW dealer that far north in Norway? Really like your d...is it hard to start in the minus 0 winter weather???

Hej hej.

Get the rim redone, or get all 4 powdercoated a new color. Honestly powdercoating them will prolly be cheaper then getting someone to match your 1 rim to the others (imo).

You have the M3 rims with a lip, right? (hard to see from that photo). Are they OEM ones, or replicas? I've not heard of the paint wearing off BMW rims, at least without a reason. Are you washing your car/wheels with a pressure washer or something?

Hi Hollywood :) Yes, there is a BMW dealer in the town Tromsø, which is situated at 69 degrees north.. Right now there is only arond minus 5 - 10 degrees celsius, and no problems so far.. My neighbour has the "same" car, and during last winters minus 35 degrees celsius he had no problems. So, Hollywood could freeze over, and you'd be still cruising :)

nice t by the way!

hei tilbake!

Well, to tell you the truth - I do not know what I have! Will find out though.. I'll take some pictures tomorrow, and post in.. I do not use a pressure washer - just hot water, BMW car shampoo and a sponge! I got this car this summer, and have no idea what the previous owner used to do. tanx for helping!

I have a 2004 M3 Convertible (2 days old). The dealers wife drove it for 1,600 miles and I noticed my rims in front have black blotches. I also have a 2001 740iL and those rims are fine. I do not intend to buy new rims...any suggestions??

If its still under warranty, go in and complain. I believe bmw's have a 3 year anticorrosion warranty.

Thanks. The service manager told us it was corrosion and that there was nothing that could be done. I will go to another dealer in my area and mention the anticorrosion warranty.

From what I've seen, BMW has had problems with the paint peeling off of their rims for a long time. I have two rims on my E30 that have the paint peeling off and one of them has no paint left on it. One of my high school buddies' mom has a 1999 540i, and the paint is peeling off of its rims (always cared for immaculately). I've seen other E30s and E36s in parking lots with paint peeling off of their rims.

Why can't BMW seem to get this problem fixed?? Do you think it has something to do with the excessive brake dust produced by the OEM pads? Other manufacturers don't seem to have any problems keeping the paint on their rims - none of my parents' GM cars have ever had problems with paint peeling off of the rims, and they keep their cars for at least 130,000 miles.
