this the return of the SLIPtronic?
(since i have a manual, i never looked into it, but there were bunch of treads on it.

This sounds very similar to what happened to my 2000 323i. My reverse gear would not engage also (likely due to the dreades sliptronic malfunction). Luckily powertrain was under warranty and dealer had another (fully functional) transmission installed. Contact your dealer; if you bought the car from someone other than a dealer contact the nearest BMW dealer and explain the situation; have your vin # ready to give them whenever you call them, as they will ask for it.

I have a 2000 323ci with less than 37,000 miles. I went to leave work Friday, and the car would not go into reverse. I had someone push me out, and it drove home fine in drive. After I got home, I researched and found many other people with the year and model having had this same problem. I read that they were having to spend thousands on a new transmission. You have got to be kidding. With under 40,000 miles?!My vehicle is a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle, and has been maintained regularly. I looked at my CPO waurantee, and it expired just in July of 2006. I have left a message with the dealer I bought the car from, and am hoping that this can be worked out. BMW should have a class action suit filed against them if they are not cooperating.
