I have noticed especially Wednesday when we had heavy rain here that the wipers after wiping the windshield leave a slightly unclear "I've just been wiped" mark on the windshield which makes it somewhat hard to see.... I suspect the wiper blades might be a bit worn, but could this be the case with the car being a little over 5 months old? And is it's replacement under warranty?[???1]

Spray some Windex (or any auto glass cleaner) on your windshield and clean it up a bit. Also, spray some Windex on a towel and wipe down the windshield wiper blades with the towel. You will see that there will be a lot of dirt on your wiper blades. After cleaning your windshield and wiper blades, try driving in the rain or applying water on your windshield and have the wipers wipe the windshield. If they are still "streaking" or basically not cleaning the windshield clearly, you need new windshield wiper blades. I don't know if BMW covers wiper blades under the warranty. If they don't, pickup a pair of Bosch Micro Edge Excel wiper blades...they are easily the best and quietest windshield wiper blades I have ever used (I have used PIAA's and other brands). Best of all, you can get them for a great price from here:

Be careful when cleaning your wiper blades. Some of them (I use Bosche microedge) have a teflon coating which will rub off black. Rubbing off this coating may lessen the performance of your blades.

tablet, is that true? I have Bosch Micro Edge Excel blades and for a week or two, my driver-side blade has been chattering in the rain and I just can't figure out what it is. Perhaps I damaged the coating or the blade one time, while wiping it down?

I am not sure if this could be part of the problem but I had a real problem with a film or coating on mine that would not come off. I tell you the car was a mess. As a result I also had a lot of trouble with the windows and a similar effect to what you are talking about. It has taken about 5 months to finally get the windows all clean. Not that the film was noticeable, it was not until I used the wipers or while drying the car I noticed a drag on the windows. The body of the car was taken care of for the most part by a detail shop but the window problem was missed and I had a hell of a time getting this off.

Not that this is your problem but I was a bit curious if you notices anything similar to me. BMW said they do have a problem with the protective coating after it is exposed to high heat.

Its more of a when the window is wet whether it be rain, water, or window cleaner.. it doesnt clean the window clearly, the water needs to dry for that to happen and on a rainy day thats not possible....

I too have noticed a problem with the wiper blades, but it's not streaking its that when the wiper swipes left, it clears the water nicely, but when it swipes right to return to the off position, it carries somes water back with it and leaves little blobs of water on the window that a moment earlier was perfectly clear. Very annoying. Anyone else have this problem?
