I am looking at a 325is soon and I wanted to know what I should keep an eye out for; I’ve heard that it’s typical for the tail lights to leak in rain water, how can I check for this.
Mostly I’m worried about rust and anything that is expensive or requires a lot of skill to fix. I know that timing belts and fan clutches are typical problems and this type of a job is right at my skill level so that doesn’t concern me.
Is there anything that I really want to stay away from? How can I easily check for these things?

Thanks in advance [cheers]

BTW, yes, I do have a Bentley manual; and yes, I promise I won’t put any obscene wings on the car. [hihi]

Welcome, you do have to worry about rain in Oregon don't you! If the taillamps are leaking it is most likely the gasket which is easily replaced. They are great cars.

Mostly all the commen problems are easy fixes, like the tail light gasket, speedos. I would worry about rust, timing belt, clutch, and water pump.

I have an 88 325is, and I love it. If you have the chance to get a car with a good body and good engine, then do it... definitely worth it!! I put my time and BLOOD into my car (if anyone has ever worked on any car they know the "blood" thing is true for any car).
