Please help!!!

I need 330CI owner help. My car recently making the metalic noise when the car turn off. The dealer had my car for over a week and came to the conclusion that all 330 will make the same noise when shut off the engine and it's normal. They tested couple of 330CI and per them making the same noise. I will need to listen to it to believe them.

Anyway, I'm hoping some of the 330CI owner help me out, by testing they car. the easier way is to start your car first, then open up your hood, make sure you are outside of your car when you turn your car off listen very carefully to your car to see if you can hear anything after like 2 seconds.

Please help..thanks a bunch.

It's probably just your exhaust. They make a noise a second or two after you shut off the car, it's perfectly normal (assuming it is the exhaust pipes).

You mean sorta a popping noise? I think that's just the metal contracting after being heated so much. My car makes a lot more noise than any of the other cars we have when you shut it off.

There is another thread of someone reporting the same noise. I cannot find the thread but I remember them saying it was NOT the exhaust system expanding/contracting.

If this sound occurs only once, 2 seconds after shutting off, then I would say it is not the exhaust system.

Exhaust system noises are usually multiple in nature as the system expands/contracts after shutdown. Also you should only hear the exhaust sounds if you have been driving fairly hard to cause a lot of heat.

Just for the record, my exhaust system has never made any noises after shutdown. And I have driven the thing pretty hard at times.

my noise comes from the front mainly. It could be the exhaust system (like the catalytic converter or headers, etc) but it's definitely coming from the front of the car. Happens every time. Usually only happens on our other cars if I run them hard but I don't think I run the BMW particularly hard. Course, it's hard to tell cuz 50 mph feels teh same as 90, but I'm certainly not trying to run the car hard.

For me, I get the noise all the time. Whether I am just driving casually or I was just running the engine hard, I get that same 1-second noise that comes from the exhaust (behind me) whenever I shut the car off.
Either way, the noise is probably just a normal engine-off noise and if the car is still running fine, you should probably just ignore...the car might have always been making this noise, but you only recently started hearing it.

Yeah the noise on my car mainly from the front. when you shut off the car it's sound like two metal touching each other making the metalic noise for like a second. I went to the dealer yesterday and they show me two car in the shop making the same noise when shut one is 330CI and the other is 325I. I guess it's normal. My car make that noise everytime I shut off the engine from the front of the car. They tested many things and everything come back normal and the asst. manager from the dealer assure me it's perfectly normal and if anything wrong check engine light will come on. Anymore feed back from you guys will be appreciated. Thank you so much everyone.

I have an '03 330xi and get the exact same noise. 1-2 seconds after shutting the car off it's like a metallic clink. Mine is definitely from the rear though so I accepted the answer in an earlier thread that it was the exhaust, but I'm still not sure though. It's such a repeatable and pronounced sound I'm hoping it's supposed to be there.
