hey csejl-
When I did it on my 2003 220i w/nav, I called the dealership and they said something about two clips on the bottom. You have to push in on these clips when the cd player is in it lowered or opened position.
Personaly I couldnt find the clips until I forced the player out.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Tour Tec. I did some more research and it appears that I need to remove the center vents first. I took out the other two screws and gave it a good pull but it won't come out. I feel like I might break something. Did you have to do this yourself? If so, how hard was it?

oh yah, sorry.
I had to remove my center vents too.
If i were you, i would call your delearship and ask to speak with a service tech. And have them talk you through it. I forced mine out because two days later i was having the unit replaced. So I really didn't care if it got a little messed up. Hope this helps. It was soo worth it!

Done! :) It was much easier trying to remove the center vents during the daylight. I was doing this at 12 am last night and man what a difference daylight makes!

Once I removed the center vents (it actually *pops* with noise) I had to use a stake knife to get my nav unit out. I was going to wire it out through the little hole in ashtray but I just couldn't reach far enough so the AUX input is in my glove compartment. I didn't drill holes or anything like they tell you to do in BMW installation guide. I just found a way to get it in there. No way I am drilling holes in my brand new car. :)

Although I struggled and sweated through the entire process (my first mod). I am glad there was absolutely no damage done to my car. I already hooked up my MP3 player (http://www.jetaudio.com/products/iaudio/cw200/) and man it sounds awesome! I'll probably buy an IPod sometime soon just for the storage reason.

If anyone has any questions, post them and I will try to answer them ASAP. Oh and thanks to all who provided help here!
