I need to remover battery cover in 2002 330i without damaging it. I have removed the two (2) plastic screws in the cover, but it is not budging. I am afraid to force it. Any help on what next steps to take - would be most appreciated.

And, is there a recommendation for a replacement battery rather than pay $140.00 at BMW dealership?

Again, thank you!

hmm- i recall being initially frustrated by this too... but, after i tinkered with it some, the cover came off really easily. so, there was a simple clip-release mechanism. just keep tinkering- maybe move the carpet aside- and it will become obvious.

as far as batteries go- i recommend going with the bmw replacement. it seems more expensive, but it actually lasts longer than other brands. i bought my car in sept 1998 and didn't have to change that sucker until around sept 2005. LOL- yes almost 7 years. so, $120 for an original bmw battery is worth it i think. :)

Battery Cover

Hi there,

After the two "screws" are removed, and the cover for the spare is out, slide your hand all the way under the battery cover and lift up... The cover slides up off of a clip, and also has to unclip from the right side carpeting trim piece. It's like the battery cover is hooked in on the top (to the trim piece) and hooked in on the bottom (to the battery hold down strap).

A propos of a replacement battery, I, personally, would recommend an OE battery because you can be sure that it'll be the right CCA and battery size to fit properly in the battery tray. Don't forget to reconnect the vent tube, unless you want the fumes to start corroding the terminals

Hope this helps,
Tiger

P.S. most people think that cold or heat are bad for batteries, when in reality, the worst thing for batteries is vibration.
