Need Quiet Tires

My wife's 2004 330 convertible is on it's second set of Continental Sportconti contacts and just as with the original set they now make an awful droning noise that just drives me nuts when I drive the car. These tires are fine in all other respects but the noise they make after 5 or 6K miles is too much for me to take. I've looked at tires recommended for this car(has sport package)on the tirerack.com site and unfortunately they all appear to be in the Ultra High Performance category meaning great performance but very low mileage. After reading the ratings and customer reviews I'm totally lost. For any given tire the customer reviews are all over the map, some saying they are great, some saying they suck. Same mixed bag regarding the noise level of the tires....some think a particular tire is ultra quiet and someone else says they are awful. So, out of the several dozen different tires listed by the tirerack.com I'm going to list the top four per the tirerack.com rating system and will greatly appreciate it if those of you who have any experience with any of these tires will tell me what you think of them and in particular if you think they can go 20-25K miles and do it quietly. My wife doesn't drive over 80 mph(and won't let me either) so I'm not really concerned about performance considerations with any of these tires, I assume all of them can easily handle about double anything we would ask of them. Thank you for any feedback you can provide and certainly recommend other brands/models of tires if you think they merit consideration. Here's the top four as I understand it on the tirerack.com site: 1. General Exclaim UHP, 2. Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S, 3. Bridgestone Potenza RE750, 4. BF Goodrich g-Force sport.

Again, I'm looking for a quiet tire, a tire that will run quiet through most of it's tread life which hopefully would be at least in the 20-25k ballpark.

Thanks!

I have PZero Nero M+S on my 325i. The noise is not noticeable HOWEVER I have a performance exhaust on it, so it may hide some noise. However, I do think this is a pretty quiet tire overall. I think you'll be lucky to get 20K out of the PZero Nero.

You probably understand that since it is a convertible, tire noise is always going to be louder compared to a coupe/sedan. My convertible has Goodyear Eagle RS since new. Tire noise has never been a problem. THey have 23K miles and probably another 3K - 5K left on them.

Well, I've just now checked out the Goodyear Eagle F1 G3-D3 that's listed for our car and it has very good ratings so I think I'm down to a toss up between Pirelli and Goodyear, both of which you have on your cars so I probably can't go too far wrong but obviously this tire selection business is something of a crap shoot. Thanks for your information.

I just recently changed my tire (tires from the tirerack.com). My previous were Dunlop Sport 9000s. Based on a lot of the reviews on tirerack, I got the General Exclaim UHP. I got them mainly for their resistance to hydroplaning. In most instances, I won't think I'm going to pushing the limits of of the tires.

After 500 miles, I can say that they are fantastic. Although the comparision is not fair (since they were at different parts of their treadlife), the Generals are quieter than the Dunlops I had before. Also, I have total confidence when driving in wet conditions.

So far, I think they are a fantastic deal for such a reasonable price.
