New Bluetooth ?

I have 2004 325I with bmw assist and NO navigation.

Question. If I get bluetooth installed I understand you can scroll through the phone book that syncs with your phone, but can you dial a new number from the steering wheel or radio? If so, how?

any other info - pros or cons would be helpful. Trying to decide if its worth it or not
