My new 325i's front and rear bumper is plastic. If you just happen to get the lightest bump to them from another car with a outpressed license plate or screw there will be a dent. I have a screw dent (nasty) in it, a scratch dent, and 2 light impresses from cars just lightly touching it. It seems to me as if I could could dent the bumper with my knuckle.. What the heck was Bmw thinking making such a cheap bumper cover.... besides the black lining around the bumper is higher than all the other cars they drive around here, 90% of the bumps end up in the low sensitive cheap area below the black line....

On the other hand, would anyone know if its replacement factor that goes with this, I mean how much would this cost to replace???? Even though its trash plastic its still Bmw which means $$$$$$$

My impression is that bumper facia is designed to crumple and be replaced, [:(] I think the chassis itself is the portion in which structure and durability is stressed.

Some road debris put a nasty gash across my front bumper last year - to be 'repaired' (replaced with a replica bumper and painted) the estimate was around $500+ from a reputable collision center. I decided to upgrade front ends while the damage was already done... Spent about the same amount for the OEM replacement/upgrade (and for future hurdles - I lowered my insurance deductable [:(!]).

Hmm, I need to find another body shop. I went to ask for an estimate for a door ding (ok, a pretty bad door ding from a stupid Camaro driver) and the body shop for Lexus/Volvo/Toyota of Cerritos came out with $753! And this is for a scrape on the upper and lower part of the front door that looks like it can be buffed out, a replaced side molding, and a minor dent that I can barely see.

It cost me $600 to replace my whole rear bumper (this was with my Infiniti though)...still it sounds a bit too pricey even though you have a BMW and just because its a door ding...

It's a Toyota Camry. [:D] I think it's cuz the body shop also handles the Lexus and Volvo dealers as well (they're all right next to each other). The estimate had a Lexus logo on teh header. I shudder to think what a door ding would cost on the BMW.

I got another estimate from a local Korean body shop that my family takes our cheapy cars too for maintenance. They quoted $325. That sounds more reasonable. The door did hit 3 different parts of the door and created a dent. Not the typical circular door ding, but a long one about 3 inches tall.

I agree, I have a '04 330ci and the rear bumper covering the exhaust is so cheap that if I tap my finger on it, it actually moves in and out almost as if it were a bendable piece of plastic.

Hmm i thought i'd posted here??!! anyway they feel cheap because they are deformable, EuroNCAP testing gives a car a rating out of 5stars as to how a car performs in a crash. 5stars means you can have a head on crash and still open and shut the door (even lock the car) and walk away with no serious damage. if i remember right most BM's are 3 star with some of the newer 5s and possibly 3s that are 4. Blame the european union for why you guys cant have beefy phat chrome ones like mine[:D]
