Hey gang is it really worth buying New? Most that I've talked to say to buy used and save $. Nothing like new car smell though but those dealer fees and taxes can be a tough not mention the depreciation from the first year. Any opinions?

Thanks in advace

It depends on if you can find what you want used? Either way you still pay sales tax on the car, assuming your home state charges a sales tax. Now depreciation is another story, although I believe BMW's depreciate less than some other brands. I bought my first roadster new, my second used and saved a ton. By the way we are talking cars right, cause BMW motorcycles are Beemers. The cars are Bimmers! FYI ;-]

Now heres a question big daddy, not to be too off topic, but when talking about bimmers, would you prounounce it like "beamer" or "bih-mer" because I have heard tons of people say it both ways.

It also depends on how much the savings is worth to you. My main concern is how well the previous buyer treated the car. To me it's not worth saving the extra money and risking some problems down the line.

@Auslander RML, I pronounce it the first way.

Real good point. I always ask myself why the owner wants to sell his fine car anyway???

This topic has been debated to death, but I pronounce it "bih-mer" as in the magazine "Bimmer". The motorcycles are pronounced Beemer or Beamer. I was being cute, you can pronounce it any way you want I am not really that picky! [:D]

Financially, used does tend to make more sense. But, my family buys new for a variety of reasons. First of all, we have pretty bad luck with used cars. We seem to get the abused ones that fall apart in a year. We also can be kinda picky about what options we want so buying new makes it much easier to find the car with the options we want. Finally, I abused a car once. Traded it in. Feel sorry for whoever got it. It was only 6 months old. With that background, I really wonder why someone would trade in their car after such a short while unless there's something wrong with it.
