I know this is a bit preliminary, as fixes are just now happening, but let me just say this: I have the slipping steptronic. And reading the Sliptronic Marathon Thread has me wondering which route is preferable, and the pros and cons of each.

1. New Tranny
2. Clutch pack install

Please post your thoughts on this.

bmwrocks,

I can tell you that I just had the Clutch Pack install and all was good this morning, time will tell though. But my dealership has done quite a few of these and they are reporting no problems so far. My buddy also told me not to be concerned with opening the trans, of course we would all rather not have it opened up. But, in my opinion, BMW will stay with this fix as long as it works, obviously the costs would be less for them to incur. Just my 2 cents

You mean 1. New Tranny 2. Rebuilt Tranny 3. Clutch pack install

Depending upon who you speak to, BMW only will replace with a rebuilt tranny ... not new. Some people claim to be getting competely new ones. Ask your dealer. Mine says only rebuilt is an option. There are those who say there is nothing wrong with a rebuilt one. I dunno.

Please keep us posted over the coming days/weeks as to how the clutch pack is working out!
