New trim

I have a 2002 330ci conv. with wood trim. I don't really like the wood and prefer the new brushed aluminum that BMW offers on the 2004 models. How much would it cost to switch the trim? Also, where could I get the new trim? Would a dealership have to order that?

Thanks.

Your best bet is probably at the dealer if you're in a hurry to have it, you won't find an owner selling optional trim too often. My advice would be to find the lowest price at a dealer by calling, searching, and haggling, then find the DIY (do-it-yourself) on the web to save a few hundred dollars. [thumb]

yea, goto a dealership to find out the cost and the part numbers for the trim. then you can prolly shop around. they'll quote you the parts, and labor costs, figure out if you want to diy it, or forkover a bit more for installation.

i'm personally a fan of aluminum trim, but i also like the silver cube trim that i got on mine [;)]

Actually this was a question I was going to ask myself, I have 'tan' panelling, I'd like to replace it with 'wood' panelling. I should just go to the dealer (They have a parts store in the back) and see what they have? I was thinking about searching for scrapped or wrecked cars to see if I could pull them out, but I think I'd probably damage them doing it myself..

I've found a few sites online that send out lots of different panelling 'kits' that go over parts of the dash, but haven't found any that actually cover and match the panelling pieces.. Have you guys ever seen this stuff, and would you recommend it for dashes? (It's like strips of 'wood' that goes over your dash, radio, etc areas..

heres one I found, what do you think?

Actually, BMW has quite a few different trims now. See if you can track down the part numbers to some of the ones available to non-US customers from the Individual department. I saw a Poplar (?) wood (light tan) trim that looked awesome.

Section 8, can you take a pic of your tan trim? I'm curious to see what it looks like. I have the wood trim in my car and have thought about switching it but am still debating it.

codex could you explain a little more for me? I should get the parts #'s (I suspect my manual or some online source I can find can help there) but where/who do I go to for the panels? I've searched the web, most of the 'big' online parts places, no one has any panelling other than the faux 'trim' kits I found. Do you mean I should contact BMW parts directly w/ the part #?

GGM here's that photo. It looks ok, just sorta 'wierd', I would have thought they would have put 'wood' in, not Tan (or maybe it's gold/tan, you decide). I just went outside and snapped the photo, so it's really night outside the window.. :)

go ask in the General section at www.e46fanatics.com Those crazy fools have ordered just about every trim BMW makes and someone will know the part numbers on there. I think if you search there, you can find pictures of the trims. Try the showroom section too. If I have time, I'll try and do a search for you but I'm really busy right now so it'll be faster if you just do it yourself.

Hey thanks codex, I actually went by my BMW dealer and hit their parts dept, and got 'their' prices for wood kits (The stock ones at least). I'll poke around some more on the fanatics site to see where else I can directly get the trim kits.

Thanks!

Once you get the parts numbers, hit up Pacific BMW or Circle BMW's internet parts dept. and see what they prices are. If you can get hold of a Euro parts catalog, that'd be the easiest way to do it. You can order the parts in them.

When i checked out my dealer they actually had a deal going on for the matte alluminum trim for like $250 CAD but the shifter center piece was separate, not sure what the price on that was.

The parts shop had a wood kit for around $500, and the center piece seperate for $200.. I'll certainly be poking around on the net for a kit. Never done interior work before, what sorta headache am I looking at if I want to attempt replacing the trim myself? (I know I can find a guide to do it, just curious as to the actual difficulty, and tools/time needed).

Right on!

Tnks again codex! I actually found the DIY on E46fanatics as well (Was just waiting to get registered). It doesn't look too bad, I think it'll take me alot longer than the 1.5 hours listed.. More like a day for me! [:D]

Has anyone actually 'done' it and have anything to add to the DIY, or maybe something you discovered that wasn't in it? It does seem pretty explanatory.
