Would I be better off buying a 2003 330i with 13K miles or a 2002 330i with 8K miles? They have almost the same options, same color, but the 2002 has the sports package and Xenons and is $1000 less.

as long as both seem like they are in good condition, i would take the sport package and xenons. But that all depends ont he type of driver you are too. if you like the sportier ride then def get teh sport package. but at the same time, newer car = less problems, in most cases. i would buy the new one.

Well, I just found out that the 2003 was a loaner, I am going to receive the vehicle history report this afternoon. It is CPO and has 13K miles so I am not too concerned. I have yet to find out anything on the 2002 but since it only has 8k miles I am assuming it was a loaner as well. What are the pros and cons of loaner vehicles? The dealer said the '03 was taken care of by their customers and it looked like it was in pristine condition. Also, it was a great price, a few thou lower than others with comparable options and mileage so I was a little suspicious.

i think the reason that the cars are being sold at such a discount is due the to fact that they were loaners. now, as to whether they had been treated nicely or babied is a huge question. I would lean toward that they were abused only because they were loaners. Abused meaning that they were constantly at WOT, as far as damage goes, not sure what that would do, but if it rides right and the engine has a smooth idle, i would go for it!!

Are both the same design? As in the ones we see on the streets right now?

If so, I'd take the 2002 330i for the Sports Package and Xenons

It is certified pre-owned so on top of the maintenance and warranty up to 50K miles I get an extended warranty up to 100K miles.
with the type of warranty, you are almost guaranteed a great car with the worst case being that you have to drive it to service. see if they will throw in picking your car up if it needs work.

The 2003 had a carfax report online and it says everything is fine and it is certified and guaranteed. The 2002 was not listed online and the salesman told me to drive two hours and look at the car before they give me a carfax or vehicle history report.

how many of you don't rag on the loaner cars? honestly concerns for the potential buyer is the last thing on my mind. that said, issues would prolly creep up before end of hte cpo period right?

how much are they asking for anyway?

and didn't the 03 sedans get a face lift or was it 02? and was it 01 or 02 w/ the power steering sensitivity issue? can't remember.. [scratch] the longer i talk, the dumber i feel.. [fake]

As shown in the picture I got from the 3 series sedan brochure (2004), The 330i already comes with sports suspension- so for the sports package you'll be getting the three spoke steering wheels, M rims with performance tires (wider tires in the rear), 12 way adjustable bucket seats, and the aerodynamic package (different from the ZHP). You are correct in saying that the ride will be firmer, but this is because of the low profile performance tires. I would definitely take the 2002 model w/ ZSP since the three spoke steering wheel has better feel, the seats have more lateral support, the aerodynamic kit looks nicer, the M rims look more aggressive (especially with that lip), and the performance tires will have more grip.

The HIDs give the car a more dynamic look than the regular halogen low beams and provide the clearest view of the road that you can get at night, giving you a safer nighttime driving experience.

You’re just getting a lot more car IMO.

What I never understood is why BM gave the option to have an automatic transmission instead of an SMG for the ZHP. Hopefully they will provide an option for SMG in the future. I think it would be better to keep the transmission options like the E46 M3 and allow only SMG or manual transmission. This way the car is more like an M car than a regular 3 series, and you won't have that power robbing torque converter to worry about.
