No reception when after market radio installed

All I wanted was a simple aux. input in my 2002 325i. I didn't want the Apple/BMW adapter and the BMW input only works in 2003 and newer cars. The guys at the car audio place ordered a Soundgate adapter that plugs into the cd changer port in the trunk, and ran the audio cable back up to the dash. When I switched to the input, there was a slight hum and crackling coming through the speakers. They checked all the wires and even ordered a new adapter, but the noise didn't go away. I decided the next best thing was to get a new cd player installed in place of the BMW business radio. I knew it would look a bit out of place and I'd lose the steering wheel controls but I was ok with that. They installed the new cd player and I thought everything was fine, but on my way home, I noticed the radio reception was terrible, like there was no antenna. I know they attached it because the guy said they had to find an adapter to fit the wire to the new cd player/radio. I read on the internet somewhere that the rear window has 3 antennas, and if you replace the radio, you only get the use of one, which doesn't give good reception. Does anyone know anything about this? Has anyone installed a new cd player/radio with or without reception problems? At this point, I'd be happy with having my stereo back to the way it was, but they probably cut the wires and can't put the business radio back in. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a Blitzsafe adapter in mine that gives me an aux input along with the trunk mounted 6 CD changer. It also plugs into the CD changer audio and power ports in the trunk. Sounds great with no noise. Blitzsafe has all sorts of adapters that offer many audio and device options. I wish you would have asked the board about this before you did all that work as we could have given you some options.

The only think I can think of is they may have mistakenly used the phone prewire power plug which is identical looking (same 3-pin connector) to the CD plug. They are not wired the same though. They have the 12V and ground wires reversed. Using the phone plug could cause cracking and noise as it would possibly fry the Soundgate. Check to see that they used the proper 3-pin plug in the trunk.

I hope you can fix your problem. Good luck.
