I recently started to hear some kind of squealing noice form under the hood(at around the belt-water pump region). It is strange cuase I had the pump and belts changed a year ago, and they shouldn't be giving problem this early(I looked at the belts, they seem ok). I can hear it when ideling, it seems to come more from the right-downside(it might be just some acustic error) and it was going away after I would drive the car for some time. Now I guess it some times turn to a much higher and louder pitch for a second or two when I am driving....
PLease HELP ME...[pray] [bigcry]

doesn't really matter what kinda engine it is, it sounds like it's just dirty squeaky belts... spray em & clean em up... i dunno what else to say
That depends on what the trouble is? If it is not the belts, could it be the timing belt, that would make a difference what engine it is.

it might just be a lose belt, when i first bought my bimmer one of the belts was lose and when u would crank the engine or start moving it would squeal, all i had to do was tighten up a lil.

Power steering pump

Could be the power steering pump squeel noise. Try changing the power steering fluid with some Red Line power steering fluid. Suppose to do this anually. See if that doesn't fix it.

Got the belt dressing and sprayed it, so the noice suddenly became stron and dissapeared...
Now there isn't any noice in there but the engine's sound...[:)]
The misterious high pitch seems to have other source, it comes only when the wheels are slightly turned to right(man it happens every day at the same places on my way to work[paranoid] [:o)] ) Anyway I guess there was a similiar thread about that kind of a problem, I'll try to lacate a loose bolt on the car...
Thanks a lot guys for the belt advice, I really didn't know about the existance of belt dressings..[8)]

Just remember if you do have to change or add power steering fluid use ATF only. Anything else is prone to leak and is not recommended by BMW nor the independent shops I've visited. I tried it once and it resulted in the death of my steering rack which only had a very slight leak before power steering fluid was added and a big one after. I do not know about the Red Line fluids except that they make a good product and I use it in other places but NOT in the power steering unit.
