Does anyone still manufacture 10mm deeper upper front spring cups for E30's? I think I need to scrape my oil pan... the front doesn't look close enough to the ground. I know BMP used to have them, but I can't find them on their website... any one else?

Intrax springs... 1.5" drop if I remember correctly... I'm using brand new spring pads (3mm), but there was nothing actually wrong with the originals. I've thought about taking the pads out, but I might as well cut the springs while I'm at it. Sketchy.

BMW made different thickness pads. Use the thinner ones. As long as they have no holes, what is sketchy about using them??? They just help seat the springs and reduce vibration and spring movement in the seats.

I have same drop with my H&R's and similar gap, but the larger wheels make it look smaller. My old springs were a 2" drop. Maybe that's what you need.

I don't think I can get any thinner than 3mm... (the sketchy part would be if I removed them all together, and cut my springs). I love the way your wheels fit in your arches... I'm only running 15"s... your's are 17" and look sweet. I was kinda looking for a quick fix, instead of buying lower springs, and bigger rims. Something like deeper spring cups would tie me over until 17's become affordable to me... on the other hand, if I'm changing the cups, I might as well just change the springs, right?
Do you have any clearance issues with your rims? Think you could tak a few pics of your wheel gaps for me, Graham?

Pics:

H&R Race springs with 35mm drop (1.5") Bilstein Sport dampers from M325i, 17x7" rims 20p offset with 205/40/R17 tyres.

Rear guards had to be rolled ever so slightly as slight rubbing under acceleration squat.

Also keep in mind I have a 325 (6-cyl) and a rather hefty sound install in the boot. Maybe you have 6-cyl springs in your 4-cyl??? There are different springs for 4 and 6-cyl. At least H&R make different ones in any case.

Thanks for the pics Graham. Actaully, the only reason I have Intrax springs was because they were the only ones I could find for a 4 cylinder convertible... The 318i cabrio was never imported to the USA, just Canada, so there were never really any springs sent over to North America for the 4cly. ... or maybe there were and they are no longer available because no-one has a 318i cabrio... ( I only ever see one or two a year over here!) My only option was 318is springs, but I wanted cabrio springs. I do have the battery up front, so I've got all the weight I can up front... I guess I might have to drop an S50 in there!

Exactly, not only was the 91 E30 a strange duck in that it had the M42 and was the only E30 with an M42, add to that your convertible and you cannot find anything from the major US suppliers as far a suspension and exhaust. But it is one fine automobile!

Seriously... I almost don't like having the 318i badge on the back... people might think I have an M10!!!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! It truly is one fine automoblie... don't have to worry about the ole E30 timing belt with zero clearance valves every time I start the car:) Very nice engine to have in an E30. But yeah, combine that with the convertible, and it more trips to the dealer for misc. parts than I'd like.

Just to bring this further OT, the m42/m40 engine is on par with the m30 in terms of physical ugliness, Its just such an ugly looking donk!

Have you ever thought of taking off the 318i badge Scotty?
