I've just recently bought a new 1997 bmw 318i convertible. This is my first post and it is to hopefully get some help/advice. The front number plate is stuck on (not screwed) and is starting to come away. Can anyone tell me what is used or what I can get hold of to stick the number plates on?

Cheers

Welcome to the board.

I would rip it off and secure it with screws. Do the job properly so that you'll never loose the plate. Good luck! Sean

i think part of the front bumper trim is a plastic strip that has a flat plastic surface for where the license plate goes. it should have holes drilled already for screws. if not, u should be able to find a replacement one at the dealer parts dept.

I just replaced the front facia on my 96 328i with an M3 facia. Had to drill new holes in the licence plate to attach it to the new facia.

Should not pose any problems to attach it. PepBoys has plugs for creating the threaded seats for attaching a license plate. Cost $3.99.

That is one BEAUTIFUL car!
Your bumper is the same as the diagram Dan (Big Daddy) put up.

Take your license plate off. See if part 16 is mess up or is even there. To be honest, I can't tell from your picture. (NOTE: part 16 for your car will be different; longer and more slender)

If it there and in good shape, find where the screws to hold the license plate go and drill holes in your new license plate to match it.

Good luck! Sean

Problem solved

Hi,

Just thought I'd let you know I've solved the problem. I bought some adhesive pads from a number plate specialist on ebay for £0.99. I took off the old plate cleaned it up and took off the old pads and applied the new ones. I used six which was plenty.

JOB DONE

Cheers
