Last month I got rear ended and as a result, took my car to the best shop in town, they only do high end cars, Ferarri, BMW, Benz etc. While I was there, I asked if they could take out a few dings that I had. They didn't do small jobs like that but said they could call a guy to come in. Picked up the car a few days later, dings all gone, bumper fixed, car looks great. Week later, I opened one of my rear doors, and noticed this hole! AHHHHHHHHH! Called the shop and they were shocked. I took it in and they told me that the 'ding' guy must have drilled it to insert a tool to get out the dings, but he usually asks the shop owner if it is okay to drill. Well, he was never asked and just did it without my permision or even trying to fill/cover the hole! The shop apologized, fixed the hole (welded, undercoat) and now you can't even notice it. The shop was great to deal with. He now refuses to have the the ding guy come into his shop. Has any heard of this method of geting dings out?? I heard that sometimes they drill on the underside of door panels where you can't see the hole, and plug it with a plastic plug!

Yeah...thats how they do it, normally the hole is much smaller and they would use a plug to cover that up.

Well, thank god the shop is a reputable one and they took care of the hole. He mentioned a plug but I said no and I wanted it welded and painted. They took care of a rental car for me as well. Nice of them to do all this especially when it was another company that came in and did it.

Wow, that shop really handled your situation in a really professional manner. I really think the ding guy should have called you up and asked you if he could drill before he did it...I don't understand why places don't do that.
I know this is very different, but I think it's kinda relevant to my point: when I had my remote install radar detector put in and I came to pickup the car, the guy who installed it relocated the trunk release button !! Can you believe that? You think he would have called and ASKED me if he could do something like that before he just went ahead and messed with my car. [?|]
Oh well, I'm glad everything worked out for you. [:)]

Depending on the size of the dings, they should of used paintless dent removal! I had a few little dings in my car too and I went to a body that uses paintless dent removal and it works like a charm. All it is really is a suction cup that just pulls the dent out. I had 6 little dents and it cost me 75 bucks to get them out! I have never even heard of drilling a hole in the car to remove a dent, that is absolutely crazy but also I don't know sh*t about body work! You are very lucky the body shop was quick to act!

i just can second lomo on this one. i never saw or even heard about drilling holes for removing the dints. that´s insane. what is worse? a ding or a hole???? crazy....

the way they do it around here is to heat up the area that has the ding, and then suck it out. no drilling required. or if that does not work they take the interior appart to access the inside. again no drilling. i think i would have kicked that guy to mars for that job!

I also think that drilling a hole in car to fix a dent has gotta kill the resale value of the vehicle. Plus also the hole is not big enough but I would not want anything to compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle especially if you get into a car accident. I just do not understand!
