I changed oil from Castrol Syntec 10W-30 to Amsoil 10W-30 at 6,448. I change oil filters every 5,000 with or without an oil change. The first set of numbers are averages givin by the analysis lab for approx. same miles. Second set of numbers are my 1st analysis at 6,448 changing my oil from Castrol to Amsoil. Third set are the latest values givin during a filter only change. The lab specifically noted excellent filtration and break in was essentially complete. Miles per gal averages overall have increased since day one to a little under 28mpg highway and a little over 24mpg in the city. My driving habits vary with my mood but usually I like to put the peddle to the metal. I have noticed that driving the steptronic in D gives me the best mpg.

I want to see how far I can go using Amsoil, changing just the filter until the analysis lab tells me it's time. Amsoil recommends 25,000 or 1 year whichever is sooner. Hopefully this will let everyone on this board identify and understand that the old addage of changing oil every 3,000 miles isn't necessary today with higher quality built motors and parts, and synthetic oil. Amsoil costs more than any non-synthetic motor oil but by going through longer intervals between changes with no further increase in wear as if I had changed every 3,000. actually saves me money and causes less polution and waste! I'm not pushing Amsoil just trying to make a point about our previous worries about going to extended drain intervals. I haven't found a filter that can go the distance so I'm changing just the filter whenver I need to so as not to exceed 5,000 miles. Something I have determined over the years to be a safe interval. Your comments and or questions are welcome. I just ordered new 18" rims and tires and will post some pics soon.
Thanks to everyone taking the time to read this. I find this board to be No#1 on BMW issues. [bmwkick]
