Hi guys,
I just currently bought a '01 and Full warranty will be expired this Sep. The "next oil service" indicator shows next 2500 mi. I don't know I should wait for a free service or just go ahead and pay about $80.00 out of my pocket for it? Because right now, the oil look really nasty. (Also lemme know how much they charge for the microfilter)
Please let me know asap!
Thanks

I'd just do it. Especially if you plan on keeping it. I mean, you said the stuff looks nasty. If so, are you really gonna risk the engine for just $80? If you do it yourself, it should cost less than $50 ($5 x 7 quarts + $10 for the oil filter).

My buddy just told me that you can get the free BMW oil change
when the light comes on OR every year.

Is this true?

William330 from what I was told by my dealer you are correct... It is when indicator comes on and/or one year has passed....

So in theory you could have you oil changed under warranty after 1 year (say you are @ 5000 miles left) and then again when indicator says.

if it is still within the warrenty and the factory service they should change the oild before the 15k mile target.

I had 13,000 on my car when I talked BMW into doing the free oil change. They told me as long as yoru within a few thousand they will do it. Tell them your going on a road trip and will not be able to get it changed for a while, they should do it alittle before the scheduled and still honor the service warranty.

Well, even I'm willing to pay my $$, but they won't reset the oilservice lite for me!!! It's been 13K miles without oil and filter change. I have to wait for another 2K miles.
That's suck!
