Oil change. Was it done?

I had an oil change as part of the scheduled maintenance, since then I have put 1700 miles on the car. I checked my oil today to make sure it was ok, the level was fine, however the oil looks very dark.
Now I know oil will turn dark but should it have this soon. Could the dealer have not done the oil change but said they did.
What are your thoughts on this?

It is a possibility. I posted a few months ago when I took my ///M in for it's first 1200 milie service. I opened the oil filter, and physically marked the filter, so I could check to see if the service was performed.

The reason I do this every time, is because back in 1996 I dropped my SAAB off at the dealership for it's scheduled oil service. Later that day when I got back home, and the engine cooled, I checked the filter. Sure enough, it was the same filter. The dealership apologized and apologized...but it didn't change the fact that I paid for a service, and if I wouldn't have marked & checked the filter...I would have driven another 7500 miles with the old oil and filter.

If it is possible, why don't you take your car to another BMW dealer and have them inspect the oil and filter. Get a 2nd opinion, and then blast the servicing dealer, if it is found that the service was not done. It has been almost 2000 miles since my oil service, and my oil still looks clear & amber...yours should too.

(prior to my BMW) It's similar to the guy at "Honest Engine" in Spring Texas who told me I needed.. pretty much a new A/C unit running $1,500.. the second place I went to.. just a recharge ( or something similar ) $35 worked like a charm.

It seems as if the car repair/maintenance industry has very little credibility.

Bahnstormer.. you have no idea the "storm" I raised at Honest Engine. I scared myself.

I called the dealer they say that the synthetic oil is normaly dark and I should'nt wory. Do you all agree?
I totally disagree. BMW oil is the same color as Mobil 1 or Syntec. A light color when it goes in. It should be pretty clean after 1700 miles.
