Alot of you guys suggest to do a oil change at 7500 mile. My new 330ci is getting close. I'm just wondering if I do it myself and not reset the sensor, then when I get to 15000 Miles and dealer will do it for free and they will reset the sensor of course..will it be ok??? or not???

any thought on this,,thanks in advance

I changed my oil at 6000 miles and sent a sample of the 10w60 Castrol off for analysis to Blackstone labs. Their report stated that the oil should be good to 7500 miles, but not much further.

I would imagine that the synthetic that your 330ci uses should have similar results. If you want to know for sure, send a sample to Blackstone.

But if that's truly the case, why would BMW have a 15,000 mile oil change?
Mercedes needs an oil change every 8,000 to 12,000 miles...the car tells you when to take your car into service...it makes an estimated guess (between 8,000 to 12,000 miles) based on how hard you drive your car. That seems more sensible than just a flat 15,000 mile system, especially since BMW likes you to whip your car real hard.
And synthetic oil is supposed to last for up to 20,000 miles !!

Yes, do it yourself and don't touch the meter. If you have the dealer do it, make sure to tell them not to reset the meter too.

Synthetics can last longer than regular dino oil, but 15,000 is pushing it. Wouldn't surprise me if that range was calculated to last you the 4yrs/50,000 miles on the warranty, but not too much longer. Prolly the 7yr/100,000 range or so. Ok since most BMW owners will have changed cars long before then, but I like to keep my good cars for a while. If you really must be cheap, just change the oil filter earlier. It only costs $10, sits up top in the engine compartment, and is easy to do. The oil filter typically requires replacement before the oil does.

It should certainly be okay. Here is a DIY on how to change your oil:

Everyone on this board thinks it's a good idea to change the oil every 7,500 miles...it's a great way to protect your investment, I think. Go for it !!
Thank you for all of the reply. so if I follow the instruction on the link provide above. I not reset the oil sensor right? and also when my car get to 15,000 miles then I will get it change by my dealership and they will reset it.
