Hi guys, I just bought my first BMW...Anyway I bought it from this 70 year old woman. The car is mint like an old grandma just drove it off the lot. So anyway I go to change the oil and I have never seen oil so thick before! On the odometer it says oil change -3100??? Does that mean she went 18k miles with no oil change? The car only has 55k miles. Should I be nervous or do you think things will be ok?

What that means is that your car was due for an oil change 3100 miles earlier. an extra 3000 miles won't kill it, just get an oil change again in the middle of the new service interval with out resetting the service interval indicator. This just to be on the safe side. Good luck with your new ride [bmwdance]

DId you buy from a private party of dealer? When you say the oil is thick are talking like sludge or is it just black and not thin? If it was a dealer have them pay for an oil change, if not change it and then have a leak down test done.

...The oil was just very thick. I did stick my finger down into the head (where you put your oil in) and my finger nail picked up some sludge like crap.
Thanks for the replys

The valve cover will have that around it anyways (especially if the top of the valve cover.)
