could someone tell me what the "oil service" light means.... i know this kinda sounds stupid..... but being that i just changed my oil no more than 500 miles ago... and its still at the same level.... there shouldn't be anything wrong with it. What sensor would make this light go on? is it based on some reset after every oil change scenario? tell me whats up!

by the by... its on a 91 318is M42 motor the "oil service" light is right next to a bar of other colored lights starting with many green ones then a yellow then a red....... i've never had these even go on and now the yellow one only is on.

the row of lights are srevice reminders. it keeps track of your milage driven and lights a new one every 3,000~ (hence, oil change at each green light). The yellow means inspection and recommended that the car be brought in for service. at that time, the shop will attatch their round reset plug to a location under the hood, resetting the lights. This can be performed on your own with a little research and caution, as its directly connected to your cpu.
