Hey guys I live in South Florida (Miami) where the climate is wet & hot most of the time. I see that the oil specs that the MFR calls for the BMW's is 5w30 to 0w40. It doesn't get cold very often down here & the driving style in the city is mostly stop & go. So is 5w30 to thin for these type of wheather & driving conditions. I mean some of the American & Jap cars I've owned called for this type of oil but I have always used 10w30 since I gets really hot in the Summer with an added bumper to bumper traffic in the HWY.

5w30 and 0w40 are a safe choice. But, if its my car. I will use synthetic 5w40 weight. 5 for easy start up especially for cold weather, just in case. but i still have the protection of 40 wt. during the hot summer. You can choose valvoline or castrol w/c is available in your local auto store.

gud luck...

I live in Pompano and the local BMW dealer uses 5w30 in my car. It probably is a safe bet.

You should be using nothing but synthetics in your car. 5 weight is good for cold climates and the 40 weight is good for warmer climates. This is the perfect oil for your car. I use Mobil 1 5w40 in my BMW.
