Pannel between sunroof and check display

i have hole (litterally) in my cars roof [;)] set back behind the check computer and before the sunroof and sort of next to the button for the electric roof. its covered with a plastic panel. just wondering why?? i have the SE spec and theres nothing on the E30 325i i don't have (i think) its not a problem i just wondered if anyone has the same panel and if you could put in a light there?

Yes and people do. I think they put it there to cover up where a crank assembly would go, so if you have a electric roof they just plug the ole instead of making 2 seperate pieces. If you pull it off you can see the motor for the sunroof. Putting a light in will be simliar to this..

Or just rig up a 12volt lead with a on off switch. I think I might do this sometime but im not to worried about it now.

Yes, you do need to watch, that is the acces to the electric motor for the sunroof. There is a large nut that you can see on the motor, that allows the sunroof to be closed if the motor or electrics fail and it rains. [bath] So if a light is put there (is there space?), then it would need to be removable just in case.
If it's the manual sunroof that's where the winder is.

Yep! Nyarlathotep and madrab are right!

There is a plastic rectangular cover that is supposed to go there. Check w/ your dealer, I believe the part number is; 51 44 1 864 536.
