I'm pretty new to this so excuse the rookie question.
I see a lot of ads for cold air intake and perfomance exhaust.
Do these really make much of a difference, apart from the great sound?
Do you need to make any other changes in conection with changing out the intake and exhaust?
What else can be done to enhance perfomance without dipping into my kids college fund?

They help performance. Depends on what you call "much of a difference". A CAI can gain 3 - 10 hp or so. Don't believe claims of 20 - 25hp from a CAI alone. Same with exhaust, a performance cat-back exhaust can get realistic gains of 5 - 12 hp, more if you replace the headers. Realistically, adding both at typical cost (i.e. not racing parts) will net 7 - 15 hp tops.

By most opinions, the "seat dyno" (you) can't detect a change of less than 3 - 4 hp in terms of noticing the difference. It only shows up if you dyno the car or time the 0 - 60 acceleration, picking up a few tenths of a second.

Do you need to do anytihng with the fuel system when you go to a CAI and perfomance exhaust.
When I did this to my motorcycle I needed to put on a new fuel managment computer. (Power Comander)
