andre: thanks

flashinthepan: no they're not oem, i got them from bekkers.
i wanted to get them from bmw but when i called my dealer, they said they only sell the lights up to 2002s or something because of legal issues and they said that if i wanted them i needed aftermarket. but i'm not sure about the coupes. u would have to call your dealer and find out if they have clear lights for the 2004 coupes.

and no i didn't have to switch the LEDS because thats only in the 2004 coupes. mine is a sedan, doesnt have LED, all i switched is the lens. i think its illegal though because my rear blinker isn't amber its clear.

anybody know the laws on the rear blinker? i think it can only be red/amber but i'm not sure

I have always heard it can only be red or amber, otherwise it is illegal. Can't quote the law though.

You could get an amber bulb to put in there, or one of those silvery ones that illuminates amber but looks clear from the outside to avoid the egg yolk effect.

How does BMW do the rear blinker with clear lenses in the sport package to keep it amber? BTW with the clear LED blinkers, the LEDs themselves light up amber but look clear when not lit.[thumb]

I had a 99 Trans Am that used the same lights for blinkers and brake lights on the back. Both red. I think there are many other cars like this too.

Maybe the law only applies to front blinkers?

Nice car. Wish we were allowed to tint our front windows whatever we wanted.

Generally, the rear blinkers have to be yellow or red. On non-LED BMWs with Sport, they just stick in a yellow bulb. The fronts can be white or yellow in CA but I think the law changes there from state to state. Personally, I can't stand red blinkers in the back. It should be outlawed. It's too hard to tell when someone has their turn signal on b/c it could be either a shorted out light, them braking, or if they have a dim light I won't notice it blinking cuz it blends in too much.

I think it looks great - that is one sexy car! [thumb] I'd definitely put in amber bulbs for the rear and front turn signals. I think it just looks cheap and amateurish when I see a car with clear lenses and the turn signals blink white. It's not only annoying to other drivers, but it just makes it obvious that you installed the lenses and ruins the coolness, IMO. It's illegal to have a white bulb as a turn signal anyways - they have to be red or amber.

There is an alternative to the amber bulbs that might give you that "egg-yolk" look. APC (the ricer accessory company) and some other companies make LED bulbs that fit into your incandescent sockets. Might be a cool thing to put in there, plus you get the benefits of LED. Not too expensive either. Check out this link. If you decide to go that route, I think you have to replace all bulbs on that circuit with the LED bulbs, however. The LED bulbs draw much less current, so if you replace your rear turn signals with the LED bulbs and leave the front ones as incandescent, your turn signals will act very funky. You'd also have to replace the front turn signals with the LED bulbs as well.

Check this out if you have a LOT of reading time. I could see nothing that would indicate no clear turn signals for PASSANGER cars. There are some that say ONLY AMBER but that seems to be under commercial. I could see a lot, tons in fact for passenger cars, but no color requirements but I did go through it fast.
