It looks beyond ugly just shapewise... Even with the camo off, I have a feeling everyones going to grunt in disgust.

They really did ruin the X5, it was perhaps the most beautiful SUV ever built... It looks perfect right now for 2005, the new look sounds like they incorporated the X3's cheapness... [bash]

Unfortunately I think they've done that with ALL of their cars. Where in the past the cars look like they were put together piece by piece by hand, the new ones just look so mass produced.

Either the "cabrio" is running a hardtop in the pix, or it's gonna have a retractable hardtop a la SLK/SL/SC430/G6. This could be the case since the top looks to be segmented and the rear overhang is a bit longer to accomodate the roof and still have some trunk space.

Its hard to judge the cabrio with all the camo on it. It looks to have reasonable porportions to me. I also did see it had some type of hard top. The new S-Class was supposes to be really nice. From these pictures, it does not do it for me. At first, I thought it was the new CLS.

The new cabrio will indeed sport a new hard top. The captions under all three pictures read:

Pic #26.] Starting from 2007 BMW does with the 3er Cabrio without the traditional material roof. Instead of whose...

Pic #27.] ... ensures a fixed, three-part verdeck of the roof specialist Edscha in the closed status for elegant Coupé optics.

Pic #28.] The new roof concept is to offer and a wulstigen back as with the Peugeot 307 to the designers more organization space at the tail to prevent.

Of course all of the above loses something in the translation, but you get the gist.

I think the concept of a hard-top convertible is cool. I just wonder what it's going to do to trunk space (which is already limited in the current model cabrio I own). I guess we'll all see for sure in 2007.

Bry,

I've seen pictures of the '07 cabrio in the past (with the top down) and it looked really, really nice.

I am very excited about the retractable hard top, I love the concept, and it makes the car look more finished. I think I'll wait for the '08 though :)
